ハイドンの交響曲第98番変ロ長調Hob.Ⅰ-98は1792年3月2日に初演されました。

この曲は、1792年のハイドン最初のロンドン旅行の際に作曲された曲です。第1楽章の序奏を聴けば、重厚な音楽を想像されますが、終楽章は全く趣の異なる音楽になっています。交響曲としては非常に珍しいチェンバロが使われています。途中までは通奏低音として使われていますが、最後には独奏のような使われ方もしています。このチェンバロが、何とも愛らしく軽やかな終楽章を演出しています。
