この曲は1845年にクリスチャン・シェーンバインによって発見されたニトロセルロースの火薬としての応用法に触発されて作曲されたものです。曲の最後に爆発音が入っているのが特徴。

昨今コンサートで取り上げられる場合は、電子音による爆発音が使われる事が多いようです。
