イギリスの作曲家フレデリック・ディーリアスは1862年1月29日にイングランドで生まれました。

ディーリアスはイギリスの音楽史上では特異な存在です。エルガーやヴォーン=ウィリアムズのようにイギリスの音楽に根ざした作風とは全く異なった音楽を作曲しています。

それは、彼が長くイギリスを離れアメリカやドイツ、フランスで生活し、最も影響を得た作曲家がグリーグだったという事が大きな要因のひとつです。

彼がパリに滞在していた頃の印象を描いた作品が「パリ、大都会の歌」です。
