作曲家ジュゼッペ・ヴェルディは1901年1月27日にミラノで亡くなりました。

イタリアが誇る作曲家ヴェルディは、管弦楽曲や室内楽の作品も僅かに作曲していますが、何と言っても28曲のオペラによって歴史に残る作曲家になっています。

ヴェルディのオペラは、美しいメロディのアリアに彩られたプッチーニのものと異なり、全体のドラマチックな構成を特徴とします。そのため、作品数に比較して有名なアリアは決して多くありません。「リゴレット」の幕開け直後のアリア「あれか、これか」は好色なマニトヴァ公爵が女を次々と手玉にとる愉しみを歌った、とても非道徳ですが、楽しい曲です。
