オネゲルの交響曲第4番「バーゼルの喜び」は1947年1月21日にザッハー指揮バーゼル室内管弦楽団によって初演されました。

オネゲルの田園交響曲とも呼ばれるこの曲は、オネゲルの５つの交響曲の中でも極めて明るい曲です。オネゲルはフランス生まれですが両親がスイス人であったためスイスに愛着を持っており、その為にスイス民謡などが使われています。バーゼル室内管弦楽団の創設者であるパウル・ザッハーの依頼で作られた創立２０周年記念作品のため、２管編成の小さな編成の曲です。
