フランスの作曲家ボワエルデュは1834年10月8日に59歳で亡くなりました。

優雅さと軽快さをもつ作風で、フランスのモーツァルトとよばれたボワエルデュは、特にオペラに多くの作品を遺しました。作曲したオペラは41作品ですが、現在はほとんど上演される事はありません。

ただ、数曲の序曲が演奏会で取り上げらます。中でも「バグダットの太守」と「白衣の婦人」は演奏される機会も少なくありません。｢白衣の花嫁」はフランスの作曲家らしい軽快で洒落た曲ですが、オーケストラの使い方はドイツ的です。
