ショスタコーヴィチの交響曲第12番ニ短調「1917年」op.112は1961年10月1日にムラヴィンスキー指揮レニングラード交響楽団の演奏で初演されました。

交響曲第12番は、第11番と共にロシア革命を描いた作品です。第11番「1905年」が「血の日曜日事件」を題材としており、この第12番「1917年」は十月革命を扱っています。

4つの楽章は連続して演奏されますが、それぞれにタイトルが付けられていて完全な標題音楽となっています。

第1楽章は「革命のペトログラード」、第2楽章はレーニンが革命の計画を練ったと言われる湖の名前「ラズリーフ」、第3楽章は十月革命の火蓋を切った砲撃を行った巡洋艦の名称「アヴローラ」、第4楽章は「人類の夜明け」で勝利のファンファーレを伴っています。

このように、ソヴェト共産主義に迎合した作品と捉えられているため演奏される事は多くありません。

Symphony No.12　in D minor  "1917" op.112   of Shostakovich has been premiered by Leningrad Symphony Orchestra concucted by Mravinsky on October 1, 1961.
