イギリスの作曲家アーサー・ベンジャミンは1893年9月18日にオーストラリアのシドニーで生まれました。

1911年に奨学金を得て渡英し、生涯イギリスで活動しました。

1938年に作曲した「ジャマイカ・ルンバ」があまりに有名になったため軽音楽の作曲家おｔみられる事がありますが、実際には数多くの歌劇や器楽曲を作曲しました。

ジャマイカ・ルンバは国名を有名にした見返りとしてラム酒を1樽贈られました。
