シューマンの序曲「ジュリアス・シーザー」は1852年8月3日に初演されました。

シューマンは、長きにわたって作曲したピアノ曲を除くと、ある特定のジャンルを集中して作曲する性癖がありました。1840年は「歌曲の年」で、「詩人の恋」「リーダークライス」「女の愛と生涯」「ミルテの花」など主要な歌曲の殆どが作曲され、1841年は「交響曲の年」で4番、1番と小交響曲とも言える｢序曲、スケルツォとフィナーレ」が作曲されています。1842年は「室内楽の年」で3曲の弦楽四重奏曲、ピアノ四重奏曲、ピアノ五重奏曲とピアノ三重奏による幻想小曲集が作曲されました。

1851年は「序曲の年」で、シューマンが作曲した「メッシーナの花嫁」、「ジュリアス・シーザー」と「ヘルマンとドロテア」という3つの劇音楽用序曲全てが作曲されました。「ジュリアス・シーザー」はとっても渋い作品であまり演奏する事もありませんが、シューマン晩年の円熟味を感じる事ができる曲です。

Overture Schumann "Julius Caesar" was premiered on August 3, 1852.

Schumann,  with the exception of the piano music  composed for a long time,  was a propensity to compose in a concentrated genre certain. In the 1840 "year of song", most of the major song "Dichterliebe," "leader Kreis", "Frauenliebe und -leben" and "Myrthen,"and in1841 "year of Symphony" he composed Symphony No. 4, , No. 1  and "Overture, Scherzo and Finale," which can be called small  symphony .

In 1842 "year of Chamber Music" ,he composed  3 String Quartet , Piano Quartet,Piano Quintet  and Fantasiestucke  which was short pieces by Piano Trio .

In  1851 "year of the Overture", he conposed  all 3  overtures "Die Braut von Messina" "Julius Caesar"  and "Hermann und Dorothea" ."Julius Caesar" may not  to be  played  too much because it is  the very cool work , but is a song that can feel maturity of Schumann later years.
