アメリカのミュージシャン　ヒューイ・ルイスは1950年7月5日にニューヨークで生まれました。

長い下積みの後1979年にヒューイ・ルイス&ジ・アメリカンエキスプレスというロック・バンドを結成し、翌年にヒューイ・ルイス&ザ・ニュースとしてデビューしました。1982年に「ビリーヴ・イン・ラヴ」がヒットし、その後はヒット曲を連発しました。

1985年に公開された映画「バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー」の主題歌「パワー・オヴ・ラヴ」が全米1位のヒットとなり、メンバーの入れ替えはあったものの現在も活動を続けています。
