ミヨーのフランス組曲は1945年7月29日に初演されました。

フランス組曲は、アメリカの出版社から委嘱されて作曲された作品です。ミヨーはアメリカの若者に第二次大戦から解放されたフランスの5つの地方のメロディを聴いてもらいたいと考えて作曲したもので、アメリカのスクールバンドで演奏できるように高度な技術を要求せずに作られました。

この曲は吹奏楽曲として作曲され、後に管弦楽にも編曲されていますが、今でも吹奏楽での演奏が圧倒的に多いです。5つの曲は、それぞれ「ノルマンディー」「ブルターニュ」「イル・ド・フランス」「アルザス・ロレーヌ」「プロヴァンス」という地方名が付けられています。

ミヨーにしては単純明快、ちょっと単調な曲です。

Suite Française is the work was composed been commissioned from American publishers. And as it was composed　to listen to the melody of the region of five of France that has been released from World War II to the youth of America, Millau does not require the advanced technology to be able to play in the school band in the United States.

This song is composed as a brass band music, and is also orchestral arrangement later, playing in the wind is the overwhelming majority still. The song of the five, local name "Normandy", "Brittany," "Ile de France", "Alsace-Lorraine" and "Provence" is attached, respectively.
