アメリカのオペラ歌手ビヴァリー・シルズは2007年6月2日に肺癌で亡くなりました。

ビヴァリー・シルズは1960年代から1970年代にかけてアメリカを代表するソプラノ歌手として活躍しました。コロラトゥーラ・ソプラノとして数多くのオペラに出演しました。元来明るく軽い声だったために、オペラでの悲劇のヒロインを演じるためにかなり苦労したようです。

1980年の引退後は、当時経済的に苦しかったニューヨーク・シティ歌劇場のゼネラル・マネージャーを勤め、企業として独立できるように尽力し、芸術の普及や福祉にも献身を惜しみませんでした。

ヴェルディの｢椿姫」のヴィオレッタは彼女の得意のレパートリーのひとつ。その中でも最も有名なアリアが第1幕のパーティの場面でアルフレードを前にして歌う「そは彼の人か・・・花から花へ」です。アルフレードへの恋心と、自分は奔放な女だ、という葛藤が歌われる曲です。

Opera singer Beverly Sills in the United States died of lung cancer on June 2, 2007.

Beverly Sills was active as a soprano singer on behalf of the United States the 1960s and 1970s. She　had appeared on a number of opera as a coloratura soprano. For she had light bright voice originally, it seems to have very hard in order to play the heroine of the tragedy of the opera.

After retirement in 1980, served as general manager of the New York City Opera was painful economically at that time, and committed to be able to as an independent company, it did not spare the dedication to welfare and dissemination of art.

Violetta in Verdi "La Traviata" is one of the repertoire of choice for her. "Ah, perhaps he is the one... Always free" is to sing the most famous arias in front of Alfredo in the context of the party of the first act in that. It is a song of love and conflict to Alfredo and  herself that's a spirited woman is sung.
