作曲家ジョージ・ガーシュウィンは1937年7月11日に脳腫瘍で亡くなりました。

シンフォニック・ジャズと言われる新しい分野を築いた事で知られているガーシュウィンは、その分野の作品を作る前はミュージカルや歌曲を主に作曲していました。

ガーシュウィンが世に認められる事になった曲が1919年の「スワニー」です。「スワニー」はキャピトル劇場のレビューの為に作曲された歌で、人気歌手のアル・ジョルソンに歌われて大ヒット曲となりました。とても軽快な曲です。

Composer George Gershwin died of a brain tumor on July 11, 1937.

Gershwin, which is known to have built a new field which is referred to as symphonic jazz, was composed mainly songs and musicals before making the work in the field.

Ｔhe　song that made Gershwin to be  recognized the world is the "Suwanee". It was composed for a review of Capitol theater, and was a big hit song  sung by Al Jolson of popular singer. It is a very light song.
