作詞家のミッチェル・パリッシュは1900年7月10日にリトアニアで生まれました。

生後間もなくアメリカに移住してきて1919年に作詞家としてデビューしました。1920年代から50年代にかけてのジャズのヒット曲は殆ど彼の作詞と言っても過言で無いほど多くの作品の詞を書いています。

最も有名な「スター・ダスト」をはじめ「ソフィスティケーテッド・レディ」「ヴォラーレ」「ムーンライト・セレナーデ」などが彼の手によりものです。また、彼は、いくつかのルロイ・アンダーソンの曲にも詞をつけています。

「ブルー・タンゴ」はアンダーソンが1951年に作曲した曲ですが、パリッシュの詞がついた「ブルー・タンゴ」は翌年全米第1位のヒットになりました。
