シベリウスの交響詩「波の娘」op.73は1914年6月4日にアメリカのノーフォーク音楽祭で初演されました。

「波の娘」はシベリウスにしては珍しくフィンランドに直接関係しないギリシア神話に基づく題材による曲です。アメリカの実業家によって委嘱された作品で当初は3曲からなる組曲として計画されましたが、最終的には三部形式の交響詩として発表されました。

冒頭ヴァイオリンによって波のうねりが演奏され、その上を飛び跳ねる波の娘たちがフルートによって表現されます。

"The Oceanides" ,symphonic poem op.73 of Sibelius has been premiered at the Norfolk Music Festival in the United States on June 4, 1914.

"The Oceanides" is a song by the subject based on Greek mythology that are not directly related to Finland uncommon in the Sibelius. It was commissioned by the American businessman and It has been planned as a suite consisting of three songs in the original work , but it was announced as the symphonic poem of the three-part format finally.

Swell of the waves is played by violins begining adm  the oceanides jump up and down on it is represented by the flute.
