ベートーヴェンのオラトリオ「かんらん山上のキリスト」op.85は1803年4月5日にウィーンのアン・デ・ウィーン劇場で初演されました。

この曲はかんらん山上(オリーヴ山上)でのキリストのエホバへの祈りと受難を描いたものです。初演の時には反響が大きかったようですが、今では殆ど演奏される事がありません。

ソプラノ、テノール、バスの独唱と合唱を伴う6つの曲から出来ていて演奏するには60分を要しますが、なかなか厳かで良い曲だと思います。ちょっと長すぎるのが演奏される機会の少ない大きな原因のひとつでしょう。
